Course Overview:
Our ‘Learn to Lead’ course provides comprehensive training in winter climbing, focusing on route selection, risk management, and protective equipment placement, as well as ascent planning in challenging winter conditions. By the end of the course, participants will gain a well-rounded skillset that includes not only technical proficiency but also the mental preparedness essential for winter climbing leadership.

We begin with an introduction to winter climbing leading, focusing on essential skills such as anchor placement on snow and rock, as well as winter-specific protection techniques involving ice screws, pitons, turf protection. Participants will lead various pitches, practicing these techniques under the guidance of your experienced instructor.
Gear and Rope Management: Our instructors will provide guidance on efficient organization of equipment, enabling climbers to operate safely and effectively in challenging conditions.
Terrain and Hazard Assessment: Participants will learn how to assess the approach, identify potential hazards, and mentally prepare for the ascent.
Mountain and Avalanche Awareness: Essential training in evaluating snowpack, understanding avalanche risk, and adopting safe practices in winter environments.
Avalanche Risk Assessment: Participants will learn how to identify potential avalanche-prone areas, interpret snowpack stability, and incorporate this knowledge into safe route planning.
Retreat and Descent Techniques: Instruction on secure anchor establishment and safe descent techniques, as well as strategies for efficient navigation post-ascent.
Emergency Retreat Procedures: Guidance on effectively exiting a climb under adverse conditions, including emergency retreat tactics and coordination with climbing partners.
