When doing any adventure sport it is important to have the appropriate kit for your own enjoyment, safety and for the safety of others around you. During winter, conditions are even less forgiving and having the correct equipment is of paramount importance. We have created kit lists as detailed below, please get in touch if you have any questions.
Summer Mountaineering
- Waterproof jacket & trousers
- Waterproof hill walking boots
- Windstopper/ fleece
- Hat & gloves
- Spare warm layer
- 30ltr rucksack with liner
- Walking poles
- Rock shoes (for those attending rock climbing courses)
- Lunch and drinks
Winter Walking & Mountaineering
- Waterproof jacket (with hood) & waterproof trousers
- Stiff mountaineering boots - B2 or B3 boots (available for hire from Cairngorm Mountain Sports - 01479 810903 OR Tiso in Aviemore - 01479 788840)
- Gaiters (recommended to keep snow out of your boots)
- Leggings / softshell / hiking trousers (NOT cotton)
- Thermal base layer (wool or synthetic (NOT cotton)
- Fleece mid layer(s)
- Spare warm insulated jacket, (ideally synthetic but down is ok)
- Hat or balaclava
- Warm waterproof gloves x 2
- Ski goggles
- 30 - 40ltr rucksack
- Flask or water bottle.
- Compass & map case
- Mountaineering axe (we can provide)
- Mountaineering crampons (we can provide)
- Climbing helmet (we can provide)
- Climbing harness (mountaineering and climbing courses only - we can provide)
- Snow shovel (not essential, but if you have one bring it along)
- Walking poles (not essential, but they can help with balance and on descent)
- Head torch and batteries.
- Lunch & snacks
- Emergency survival bag or blizzard bag (Available here)
Winter Climbing
All as above, but with;
- 2 technical ice axes (we can provide but bring your own if possible)
- Crampons (we can provide)
- Climbing harness with 1 x 120cm Sling, belay device & 2 x HMS karabiners (we can provide but bring your own if possible)
Ski Touring
