2017 off to a flying start! #winterskills #cairngorms

4th January 2017

It's been a mixed start to winter this season with promising cold spells followed by unseasonably warm weather. Conditions have been building and improving in the mountains fortunatelty, and we've had a number of teams out enjoying themselves.

After a thaw/ freeze yesterday the snow is really firm underfoot, creating good conditions for our two winter skills, two winter climbing and winter walking week courses who are out.

Most teams have been in and around the northern corries of the Cairngorms, but Ross and hill walking team ascended Ben Nevis today.

Here are a few photos of the teams and how conditions look.

A must do if visiting Aviemore My wife and i wanted to hike up' 'Ben Macdui' Scotlands second highest mountain. We contacted 'Cairngorm adventure guides' who were brilliant, easy to deal with, professional and promt. Our guide Emma didn't just get us to the summit but gave us lot's of local information on the area, and on hiking in the mountains in general. The walk is a couple of hours (we're 58 & 60 years old) with a few stops to take in the the stunning scenery and take photo's. As well as being constantly informative, Emma was also professional and considerate, offering us options for various descents, given the weather conditions and time. The weather changed, as would be expected, in the Scottish highlands, constantly, this only enhanced the overall experience and satisfaction of completing the hike. All in all, if you're looking for a memorable experience in the Scottish highlands, DO THIS!
